FAQ

What Spanish food is pork-free? Tortilla española, pa amb tomàquet, gazpacho, escalivada, calçots with romesco, padrón peppers, churros and crema catalana are all pork-free by default. Grilled seafood is pork-free too, subject to your view on shellfish.

Is tortilla española halal? Yes, it's potato, egg and olive oil (sometimes onion), with no pork or alcohol. It's one of the safest things to order.

Which "safe-looking" dishes actually hide pork? Croquetas (usually ham), lentil stews and some "vegetable" tapas (finished with jamón or chorizo), and pa amb tomàquet when it's topped with ham. And avoid morcilla and botifarra negra (blood sausage).

Are churros halal? Churros are fried in oil, not lard, with no alcohol, so they're fine. Crema catalana (the custard dessert) is also alcohol-free.
